Paediatric Radiology
The breadth of expertise within Bath Radiology Group allows us to provide a comprehensive range of imaging for the paediatric age group in both the acute and non-acute setting.
The majority of the Bath Radiology Consultants are able to undertake paediatric imaging. Specialist Paediatric Radiology opinions are provided by Dr Louise Robinson who, in particular, has experience in neurological and oncological conditions in childhood. She has forged close relationships with regional Paediatric Radiology experts, in case of the need for a further opinion.
In the paediatric age group we can perform:
- Ultrasound
- MRI scans
- Nuclear Medicine studies
- CT scans
- Fluoroscopic studies
- invasive procedures when occasionally required
Minimizing Radiation Exposure in Children
Our imaging protocols in children are tailored to minimize ionizing radiation exposure, utilising modalities such as ultrasound or MRI whenever possible to avoid risk. We liaise closely with the medical physics department at the Royal United Hospital to continually modify techniques that involve ionizing radiation, in order to reduce dose and limit long term risks in this vulnerable population.
We are always happy to discuss the most appropriate imaging technique to limit radiation dose in children with any referring clinician.
